Today’s recipe is what I refer to as a quick and dirty version of a classic recipe. We will be replacing sliced beef, which has to be marinated for a long time, with ground beef. This will allow you to complete this entire dinner in less than 30 minutes from fridge to table! How great is that?
This recipe does use a few more spices than normal but nothing costly or crazy. Also, as you’ll see in the pictures below, I had an amazing assistant helping in the kitchen today, though she did call herself THE HEAD CHEF! I didn’t argue! 😉 You will have to find an assistant of your own, this one does not come with the recipe. 🙂
So, get your taste buds ready and whip up this dish then sit back and wait for the compliments to start rolling in!
1 lb ground beef (the leaner the better)
large head of broccoli crowns
1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (use more if you want your dish spicy)
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 Tbsp olive or coconut oil
4 cloves minced garlic
sliced green onion for garnish
serve over rice or quinoa (I used brown rice)
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and add garlic. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly so garlic doesn’t burn.
- Add ground beef and crumble with a wooden spoon or spatula. When ground beef is almost done, add broccoli crowns, cover and cook an additional 5 minutes.
- While ground beef is cooking, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar and red pepper flakes.
- Pour mixture over beef and broccoli mixture and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Serve over rice or quinoa.
This recipe would be great served in lettuce cups or just as it is without the rice if you are looking to cut some of the carbs out.
Enjoy and, as always, please let me know what you think!
